Costa del Sol Hotels

Costa del Sol Hotels

What’s in a name? Well, Costa del Sol means Sunshine Coast, which describes this region of Spain perfectly. With heavenly beaches, family-friendly resorts and world-renowned clubs, it’s not hard to see why so many British tourists visit year after year.

Whether you’re heading for the neon nightlife of Malaga, the glitz and glamour of Marbella or the thrilling theme parks of Torremolinos, there’s plenty to see and do along this part of the Mediterranean coastline. Golf lovers and sun seekers are especially spoilt for choice on the Costa del Sol.

Beaches

With golden crescents of sand, beachfront bars and inviting water, Costa del Sol beaches set the standard for holiday destinations across the globe. If you’re looking for a blissful sandy stretch with plenty of things to do nearby, head to Playa de la Cala Mijas – it’s nestled in the pretty Spanish resort town of the same name. Playa La Carihuela in Torremolinos, Fuengirola’s main beach and Playa Carvajal in Benalmedena also deserve special mentions; each of these is a picture perfect example of everything a beach should be.

Culture

Flamenco dancing is a mainstay of Spanish culture. The colourful costumes and energetic moves are iconic, and no trip to the Costa del Sol is complete without the chance to experience it for yourself. In Mijas Pueblo there’s even a free show at 12:00 every Wednesday in summer; this typically Spanish town is easily reached by bus from Fuengirola. Alternatively, look out for traditional tablaos (flamenco venues) or local clubs that host live shows; they are especially popular in Malaga and Torremolinos.

Food & Drink

You’re in for a treat when you wine and dine along the Costa del Sol. Moreish Mediterranean flavours, tasty tapas and fresh seafood are the menu headliners here. Order small sharing plates of migas (fried breadcrumbs) and ajoblanco (soup made from garlic and almonds) for a true taste of the region. Follow your nose around the tapas trails in Nerja and Malaga or step into a beachside chiringuito restaurant to discover some hidden gems for yourself. Toast to your holiday with a tipple of sangria or local, fruity cocktails.

Nightlife

The Costa del Sol is home to some of Spain’s hottest nightlife. The strips and squares of Malaga, Sotogrande, Fuengirola, Benalmadena and Marbella are brimming with bars and clubs. Looking for a chic night out? The Gin Tonic Bar in Malaga is the venue for you. If you prefer a home from home when you’re away, try the welcoming Britannia Pub in Fuengirola or The Shakespeare in Malaga.
